I'm with this anon. I find that the enormous knockback/jostling effect (more so compared to other flares?), as well the larger potential radius of flame ignition (since it bounces after contact) makes it a useful, if less lethal deterrent in defence.

Of course, I fully admit to a lack of skillful handling of the degreaser, so maybe I'm just using this as a crutch.

Thanks for posting this Moose; I've been reading your blog for a while and its been a source of entertainment and useful tf2 gameplay tips.

”while it would be great to eek a few extra seconds out and wait until you are almost dead”

I think this may be misleading for new players; if you pop uber the moment before you’d die (so when you’re on really low health), you’re still going to be on low health after the uber fades. It’s all very situational, but generally you don’t want to die right after your uber fades. You’d have to find the balance between popping as late as possible and popping before you’re on too little health.

Hey, I have over 200 hours of TF2 gameplay and are looking into playing competitive. I am ok at most classes but better at scout, spy and heavy. My worst class is probably soldier.
Add me on steam and we can play together : beachyboy1999

Thanks

Scorch shot is useful in some situations. I while defending goldrush 2, point B, I can perform a scorch jump, and get right into the side passage to irritate and ambush enemy players. The scorch shot can be used to jump roughly the same horizontal distance as the Detonator, at the expense of much less health. It can also be good for annoying groups of enemies from a distance.

Across the canyon on Goldrush 2, you can come up the side and ignite all the spawn campers around the gate closest to the S. Cabinet, aswell as knocking people of buildings. The fact that the Scorch shot leaves a flare on the ground after succesive hit provides a way to ignite people walking through doorways.

I'm late on this, but the Pompson is very over-used. It isn't quite as bad now that it lacks piercing, but it is a Scout-Sniper-Spy killer, and, as those are my main classes, I generally hate fighting against it.

The Spy-Cicle has never been over-powered. It's a good counter to Pyros, something the Spy NEEDS. The Spy has so many weaknesses, and most classes have a way to Spy-Check.

The Phlog is just annoying, because it encourages M1+W Pyros to run amuck. I do get a kick out of being a Soldier, because I can take them out with their lack of airblast capabilities.

Your effectiveness against scouts is easily countered by using the SMG instead of jarate.

Otherwise everything you said is pretty much correct, the tracer aspect alone means you've either got to constantly find new sniping spots or basically resign yourself to a 1.00 k/d ratio.
